Primary 1 had a great time on their first school trip to the Highland Childhood Museum in Strathpeffer to learn about Toys from the Past.
When we arrived we met our activity leader Alison and the children were able to dress up in old clothes like Victorian children – the girls wearing white pinafores and the boys with waistcoasts and caps.
Then they were split into two groups – one group went around the museum answering quiz questions and playing with the old toys and the other group discussed their favourite toys and put teddy bears in order of old and new in a timeline. Then we swapped over.
In the Museum we looked at old photographs of Inverness and Beauly, including pictures of children at school. The children were allowed to play with toys such as the dolls house, the slate and pencil, dressing up clothes, snakes and ladders, the old wooden train, wooden building blocks and dollies with an old toy pram.
We had our lunch in the Education Room and the kids played with toys such as stilts, hula hoops, cup and balls etc outside afterwards.
